  05 JANUARY :: TEST DRIVE

Board Culture, in conjunction with Global surf Industries and Greenline (SUPs), will be holding a free come and try morning this coming Thursday. It commences at 5.30am for those who have to work!

There will be approx. 30 boards to try including a great mix of fishes, shortboards, mid lengths, mini-mals, longboards and SUP’s from:

7S, Aloha, McTavish, Meyerhoffer, Modern, NSP, Walden and Webber.

Why not try a lightweight SLX performance longboard from McTavish (Fireball and Original models), Modern (Contour model), Meyerhoffer (3 sizes), or Walden (Carbon Rail model). Or one of those flash looking McTavish SUP’s. Otherwise try a 7S Superfish, a Webber Mini-Fish (heaps of volume), or a big SUP cruiser. The choice is yours …

Call us on 5572 9866 if you want specific details of what board sizes etc. are available. Details are:

5.30AM - 9.30AM (approx.)
Thursday 7th January 2010
Arthur Street Mermaid Beach (about 5 streets south of Board Culture)
Look out for the GSI tent and flags on the beach
Contact: BC Shop Ph. 5572 9866, or Mark Sutton Ph. 0417 733 427

07 DECEMBER :: WARNING / REMINDER FOR BLC XMAS PARTY

Presidents Cup and Annual Presentation Night - 13th of December. Tickets for the evening will be $30 single and $50 for a couple. Entry fee includes sit down nibbles, dessert and drinks - plus the usual antics from the regulars. The BLC Fundraiser Board will be drawn on the night also.

The Carols By Candlelight is on the same night in the park at Burleigh, it starts at 5.30pm. It might be a good idea to taxi, bus, car pool it there for the evening - everyman for themselves. Good luck.

Also please remember to sell your raffle tickets and bring the stubbs on the night for the draw or you will have to take the money back and look like a tool. No one likes that.

Also for those who haven't paid for the Christmas Dinner to either pay at the Presidents Cup the morning before, as cash will not be accepted on the night. Treasurers night off.

The theme this year is: Black and white.

Pete Wickham is looking for a projector and screen to give a presentation of photos of 2009 comps and a few randoms of the local fauna, etc. Can anyone help? Phone Johnny on 0434 736 957.

Thats all folks.
John 'Johnno' Hansen

03 SEPTEMBER :: WATCH YOUR KEYS

Just a reminder to be double careful about hiding your keys when surfing ... Yesterday late morning, a regular customer of ours parked his car in the Pipe carpark at Burleigh (where BLC usually meet) and took his keys down the beach with him. He left the keys wrapped in his towel when he went out surfing. Guess what, no keys and no car when he came back in! To his credit, after managing to make a few calls to report the theft, etc. he went back out for a surf. Well, there was nothing else he could do!

23 AUGUST :: AUSSIE TITLE WRAP UP FOR BLC

Update from Clint at the Aussies.

Hey Kyle,

Got a 2nd at the Aussie titles 2009 and the Junior member of the Australian tag team champions who smashed the points record in the heat leading into the final. The Qld team won the final in the last wave when Harley Inglbey failed to get a 9+ to win it for NSW. Go Queensland.

Macca had a blinder at the Aussies winning the O35s and the O45s and the O45 member of the tag team. If you could have seen him in the two semi’s he blew everyone away.

Jackson was eliminated in the quarters only needing a 4.5 to progress into the semi, the surf was a little inconsistent with long periods with no scoring waves to be had, I got caught in the final like that needing an 8+ and waited for over 7 minutes without luck.

I guess that’s surfing.

09 AUGUST :: AUGUST CLUB ROUND - BEST WAVES EVER!!!

The committee took a gamble today and moved the comp south - much to the dismay of some members. The travelling members scored epic waves with some great rides had by all. Part time Club photographer Pete Wickham was clocking up some serious tip time on his new Evolve with one impressive speeding hang ten right in the sweet spot. There were numerous interferences by many members (not to mention the contest director - shame!) opting not to follow the rule book.

Watch this space for all of the action in coming days. Pete Wickham and Mark Sutton were there documenting the days events.

13 JUNE :: JACKSON CLOSE WINS QUEENSLAND TITLES

Congratulations to Jackson Close who won the Queensland Titles last weekend.

Close, 25, set the standard for the final on his opening ride, netting a high-scoring 9.00. Not resting on his laurels, he backed it up with a 7.50 on his second ride of the final to record a 16.60 combined two-wave total (out of a possible 20). Post final, former Queensland champion Close says he was delighted to bag another state title. “I’ve won a few over the years, but his one’s extra special,” he said. “After finishing second in last year’s event I really wanted to seal a win.” Jerrems netted a combination of 11.57 to finish in second, with Surman in third on 10.24. Maroochydore’s Grant Thomas was a no-show for the final, opting to celebrate his son’s Freddy first birthday.

"Here are a couple of snaps of the West Coast. Pretty cool place with a dairy farm over
looking this reef break!! Amazing. The stretch of coast line that we were at has about five
reef breaks, two point breaks and a couple of rock/sand beach breaks all within about five
